Our History
The Franklin Area Swim Team (FAST) has been proudly representing the East
Pittsburgh area for over 40 years. Founded in 1973 by the local high school and
summer club swim coach, Ed Eyles, FAST has grown to over 200 wonderful and
enthusiastic athletes. FAST has the honor of being not only one of the largest clubs, but
also one of the longest continually operating clubs in the Allegheny Mountain Swimming
chapter (AMS) of USA Swimming, the national governing body for our sport. AMS
covers western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio and Northern West Virginia.
Swimming is a life skill that is not only healthy physically, but just as important,
mentally. Commitment, goal-setting, organization, time-management, self-discipline and
confidence are all benefits of participating in the sport of swimming. FAST strives to
provide a positive competitive environment while developing good swimming skills, a
forum for friendship and fun, and an overall experience that will enhance our swimmers'
spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship. For our excellent, devoted coaching staff,
swimming is a way of life, having achieved national and international swimming status
during their own swimming careers.
FAST is both a developmental and competitive team with training programs specifically
designed to challenge our members ranging in ages from 4 to 18; returning college
students; and a group of dedicated masters swimmers ages 18 to 80.
FAST has produced national and internationally ranked swimmers. Currently, FAST
swimmers are ranked with top times in the local AMS chapter and in the national USA
Swimming. We currently have swimmers that have qualified for Junior National
Championships, Sectional Championships, as well as High School State and WPIAL
championships. Our swimmers are committed athletes and spend many hours a day, up
to six days a week year round, practicing to perfect their skills.
